Online Yoga Offerings

With the challenges of COVID-19, all classes have been moved online for the foreseeable future. Hillary uses Zoom to teach public classes, individual & small-group private sessions, workshops and teacher trainings.

In addition to the selections below, Hillary’s Vimeo channel includes some free pre-recorded classes. Follow her Vimeo site to stay informed about new content. Other instructional videos and full-length classes for purchase to download; contact Hillary if interested.

Practice with me. Here’s what to expect.

DISCLAIMER: I love to geek out talking about yoga! Come to class, attend a workshop, join me on a retreat…or let’s go grab a cup of coffee and chat. (Yes, I’m a yogini who loves coffee. We all have our vices.)

When you take a class with me, you will begin with gentle opening stretches to prepare your body to sit comfortably. Once seated, we focus on breath and centering, with a guiding theme or intention for the practice. From slow movements to open the body (seated and on hands and knees), we move to standing postures, often including variations of surya namaskar, or sun salutations. As we wind down, we return to the floor for a series of seated and/or supine postures to prepare for a final period of seated meditation or savasana (corpse pose, for deep relaxation and de-stressing).

I believe that modern yoga has too often emphasized flexibility. While we certainly stretch muscles and build flexibility where needed, I like to focus more on stability and safe functional movement. Postures, then, incorporate both strengthening and stretching, with detailed alignment cues to ensure stable and supportive positioning for the individual.

Every class I teach devotes ample time to meditation and savasana — think 8-20 minutes! It often takes 4 or 5 minutes to settle in and find that space where the mind finally begins to let go and find quiet. We all deserve some time to let that simmer in order to restore ourselves and enjoy the main purpose of the practice. A good savasana = a good day ahead!

Slow Flow Yoga

Slow Flow Yoga melds the style of vinyasa flow (breath connected with movement) with attention to safe alignment, creating space for a moving meditation. We warm up slowly, building to sun salutations and standing flow before winding down on the mat for a grounding savasana. Classes are themed around different elements of yoga philosophy to teach students not just asana (posture) but ALL eight limbs of yoga.

Gentle Yoga

Yoga is not limited to athletes and contortionists. On the contrary, anyone can practice yoga. Not just limited to physical postures, yoga includes breathing practices, mindfulness, concentration, meditation, relaxation and following principles of good living.

Gentle Yoga classes usually leave out strenuous sun salutations and focus more on gentle movement, breath and body connection, and de-escalating the nervous system. These classes are appropriate for any student, including people who are older, pregnant, postpartum, recovering from injury, or simply wanting a softer practice.
