Hillary Easom, M.Ed., E-RYT500, RPYT

I’ve been a teacher more than half my life, having taught secondary school English before embarking on a writing career in my late 20s. I like to joke that I started my yoga path in a teaching role. In graduate school, a friend asked me to guide him through a yoga practice following direction from a book. I’m not sure how well I taught, but I was intrigued enough to borrow the book and begin my own practice.

I soon recognized that yoga is not just about the physical body. Yoga supported me through bouts of minor depression and anxiety; it helped me feel grounded. When I became pregnant with my first child, I started taking prenatal yoga classes and practiced nearly every day. Yoga played a huge role in my pregnancies and births; I was inspired to eventually become a yoga teacher.

When I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training, I quickly realized this was just the tip of the iceberg. Since then, I’ve taken hundreds more hours of training to deepen my knowledge and skills; there is always more to learn. I’ve integrated my learning into teaching thousands of hours of classes, workshops and trainings.

My own yoga teaching style is best described as a breath-centric flow with an attention to alignment and some longer-held postures to build strength, stability and stillness of mind. I like to incorporate yoga philosophy, mantra and/or mudras into each class that I teach — asana with an extra twist! Most often, I teach all-levels classes — i.e., teachers, beginners and just about every level in between. My intent is that every student—regardless of age, fitness level or experience—finds something in the practice that speaks to their soul.

“I am still a teacher, still a writer, always a student and forever an adventurer.”

“Hillary is the most! Most what, you ask? Caring. Creative. Thoughtful. Practiced. Fun yoga instructor you can find. I’ve practiced with her for 3 years plus a fantastic yoga retreat in Panama. Everyone loves her for all the right reasons! She lets you be your full self, giving basic guidance or advanced alternatives.”
